Emma showed a natural passion and aptitude for music from an early age, and sung her first solo aged 5. She was able to follow musical and theatrical pursuits both in and outside of school. After attending The Chase High School, an Artsmark Gold school renowned for its level of musicianship, she fought off stiff competition and was awarded a place at Bath Spa University to study a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. During her studies Emma was able to specialise in Vocal Performance under the watchful eye of the International Soprano Rosa Mannion.
Emma has won numerous awards and prizes for singing including The Aria Prize at Bath Spa University and the Nunnery Wood Opera Cup. Her performances have taken her to many national and international venues including Bath Abbey, Wells Cathedral, Huntingdon Hall in Worcester and St. David's Hall in Cardiff.
Over the years Emma has worked with, worked under or received tuition from some of the worlds leading musicians and performers. These include Neil Mackie, Stephanie Cole, Prof Susan McCulloch, Andrew Parrott, Howard Skempton, Ken Burton, Lucy Shaufer, Richard Hickox, Nigel Perrin, Scottish Opera and English Touring Opera.
Since her graduation Emma continues to study privately with Rosa Mannion. She has also undertaken further professional development including a substantial opera course at Rose Bruford College.
Emma continues to maintain an active performance and competition diary and is always interested to hear of exciting new opportunities.
Operatic roles include
'The Queen of the Night' in The Magic Flute, 'Mabel' in The Pirates of Penzance, 'Constance' in The Sorceror, 'Sister Jane' in Happy End. She has appeared in many productions including Aida, Blondel, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, Acis and Galetea, The Marriage of Figaro and Cosi fan Tutte.Oratorio performances include
Handel's Messiah, The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, The Creation by Haydn and Mozart's Coronation Mass.
Emma is always interested in new repertoire and relished the chance to work on the second British performance of Gorecki's Salve, Sidus Polonorum and the premier of Amanda Ballard's Stabat Mater. She has also had the chance to work on modern compositions by composers such as Howard Skempton, Gavin Bryars and Orlando Gough. She is always interested to meet and work with living composers!
When she is not performing Emma enjoys doing yoga, learning new languages, painting and walking in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside.
